RES. 768 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES September 26, 2025 Mr. Green of Texas (for himself, Mr. Cleaver , Mr. Davis of Illinois , Mr. Horsford , Mr. Meeks , Mr. David Scott of Georgia , and Mr. Scott of Virginia ) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Education and Workforce RESOLUTION Honoring Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.®, on reaching the historic milestone of 118 years of brotherhood as Servants of All . Whereas Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.®, was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, as the first intercollegiate fraternity founded by African-American men affectionately known as The Seven Jewels : Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy; Whereas their mission is to develop leaders and promote brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy to their communities; Whereas the Fraternity, which is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, includes more than 720 college and alumni chapters and general-organization members, serving communities in the United States, and other parts of North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia; Whereas the Fraternity, whose motto is First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All , has long stood at the forefront of the African-American community’s fight for civil rights through Alpha men such as Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; late former Congressman Adam Clayton Powell; late former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall; legendary activist, actor and performer Paul Robeson, former Ambassador Andrew Young; General Charles Q. Brown, Jr., former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; late former Senator Edward Brooke; scholar, Cornel West; Maryland Governor Wes Moore; Senator Raphael Warnock; Congressman Steven Horsford, former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus; five other Members of Congress; numerous State and local lawmakers across the United States, as well as President of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Boakai, Sr.; and Whereas Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.®, which was responsible for and led the effort to erect the MLK Memorial, engages in general programs, which include Brother’s Keeper , which advocates and improves the lives of its senior members and members with disabilities, as well as their spouses and widows, A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People that engages in voter registration, engagement, and empowerment, Go-to-High School, Go-to-College , which concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement, and Project Alpha , which is designed to provide education, motivation, and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases for young males ages 12 to 15 years of age: Now, therefore, be it 1. Short title This resolution may be cited as the Original Resolution Honoring Alpha Phi Alpha . 2. Recognition The House of Representatives congratulates and commends Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.®, on 118 years of service.
