R. 8434 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 22, 2026 Mr. Barrett (for himself and Mr. Golden of Maine ) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs , and in addition to the Committee on Rules , for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned A BILL To prohibit an authorization for use of military force which authorizes such force for a period longer than 5 years or an unspecified period of time from receiving congressional priority procedures. 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Prevent Endless Wars Act . 2. Sunset requirement for authorization for use of military to receive congressional priority procedures (a) In general Section 6 of the War Powers Resolution ( 50 U.S.C. 1545 ) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: (e) Subsections (a) through (d) of this section may not apply with respect to a joint resolution or bill introduced pursuant to section 5(b) which authorizes the use of United States Armed Forces for a period of more than 5 years or an unspecified period of time. . (b) Applicability This Act, and the amendment made by this Act, shall apply with respect to a joint resolution or bill introduced pursuant section 5(b) of the War Powers Resolution ( 50 U.S.C. 1544(b) ) (commonly referred to as an Authorization for Use of Military Force ) after the date of the enactment of this Act.
