R. 2708 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 8, 2025 Mr. Downing (for himself, Mrs. Biggs of South Carolina , Mr. Dunn of Florida , Mr. Edwards , Mr. Gill of Texas , Mr. Gooden , Mr. Hunt , Mrs. Luna , Mr. McCormick , Mr. McGuire , Mr. Messmer , Mr. Meuser , Mr. Ogles , Mr. Schmidt , Mr. Taylor , and Mr. Weber of Texas ) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary A BILL To amend section 236(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act with respect to the detention of aliens who commit certain property crimes. 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Safeguarding American Property Act of 2025 . 2. Detention of certain criminal aliens who commit certain property crimes Section 236(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act ( 8 U.S.C. 1226(c) ) is amended— (1) in paragraph (1)(E)(ii), by inserting trespassing, vandalism, arson, before burglary ; and (2) in paragraph (2), by striking and serious bodily injury and inserting serious bodily injury , trespassing , vandalism , and arson .
